Will olive oil become a rare commodity on the Moroccan table?
Abdel Salam, a fifty-year-old Moroccan employee who supports a family of five, recalled with nostalgia the days when obtaining olive oil – which is rich in nutrients – was easy, when he would store enough quantities to last him for months without trouble. He remembers how the smell of authentic oil wafted through the house, and it was an integral part of his daily meals, when the price of a liter did not exceed 25 dirhams (about 2.7 dollars), then it rose to 40 dirhams, and now it exceeds 100 dirhams per liter (the dollar is equivalent to 9.3 dirhams).
