Trump recommends imposing 50% tariffs on the European Union
US President Donald Trumpsaid on Friday that he recommends imposing 50% customs duties on goods coming from the European Union, starting next June 1, indicating that dealing with the bloc regarding trade is difficult.
Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that “dealing with the European Union, which was formed primarily to exploit the United States commercially, is very difficult… Our discussions with them do not lead to any result!”
He added, “Therefore, I recommend imposing direct customs duties of 50% on the European Union starting from June 1, 2025. Customs duties do not apply if the product is manufactured within the United States.”
Trump’s posts today brought tariffs and trade back to the forefront.
