The comprehensive Zionist escalation (Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon) and the challenges of Arab steadfastness and the Palestinian issue
The current Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and its extension to the Lebanon and Syria fronts, represents an open attempt to exploit the regional and international situation to implement strategic plans aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause and imposing permanent hegemony on the Arab Levant. This escalation is a new link in a chain that began with the seizure of land in 1948, and today aims to undermine any horizon for a just solution and prevent the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
Forced displacement and destruction of the Palestinian presence (Gaza):The ultimate goal in Gaza is not necessarily security as much as it is demographic and geographic change. The systematic destruction of infrastructure, homes, and hospitals aims to make the Gaza Strip uninhabitable, and then push its residents towards forced displacement, which constitutes a second Nakba and an existential threat to the right of return.
Creeping annexation and the imposition of a fait accompli (West Bank):The escalation coincides with an unprecedented rise in settler violenceand widespread military incursions, which are tools for dismembering the West Bank and reducing the spaces available to the Palestinians. This represents a continuation of the land seizure plan that began in 1948, and aims tokill any chance of establishing a Palestinian stateon the 1967 borders.
Isolating and dismantling the axis of resistance:The raids on Lebanon and Syria aim to weaken the regional forces supporting the Palestinian cause. This pressure aims to disperse Arab and regional efforts, isolate the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, and prevent the formation of a united front capable of supporting Palestinian steadfastness.
Gaza’s steadfastness… The heart of the issue:The steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza in the face of the machine of war and destruction is thefirst line of defensefor the Palestinian cause. Any success in imposing displacement or eliminating the Palestinian presence in the Gaza Strip means an irreparable strategic setback for the Palestinian national project.
Saving the West Bank from annexation:Arab efforts must focus on protecting the West Bank from gradual takeover. This requiresurgent financial and political supportto strengthen the resilience of residents in seam zones and stop settler violence, which acts as an unofficial arm of the occupation.
Activating unified Arab diplomacy:The Arab countries must unify their discourse in international forums (the United Nations, the Security Council) to press for an immediate cessation of aggression, recognition of the Palestinian state, and activation of international accountability mechanisms for war crimes committed since the start of the escalation.
The current situation requires the following:
Rejecting normalization under fire:Arab countries that have relations with the occupation must use these relations to put pressure, or at least freeze them, to confirm that the Palestinian issue is the compass, and that any normalization cannot take place at the expense of liquidating the rights of the Palestinian people.
Supporting comprehensive reconstruction:The Arab countries must commit to establishing a huge and immediate regional fund for the reconstruction of Gaza, not only the infrastructure, but also supporting the social, educational and health infrastructure to ensure the survival and roots of the population.
Neutralizing hostile influence:The regional situation requires greater Arab coordination to limit external interventions aimed at dismantling the surrounding Arab countries, especially Syria and Lebanon, to ensure their survival as a strategic depth to the Palestinian cause.
