October 15, 2025

The marches began in the streets of the city hours before the start of the match between the Italian national team and its Israeli counterpart at the Blue Energy Stadium, amid major security reinforcements imposed by the authorities in anticipation of any emergency, in light of the escalating public anger.

The demonstrators raised banners condemning “genocide” in Gaza and demanding an end to sports cooperation with Israel, stressing that sports should not be used to whitewash war crimes, as they put it.

Despite the atmosphere of protest, the match was held on time and ended with the Italian team winning by three unanswered goals, in a match that witnessed tight security measures inside and outside the stadium.
