The Democratic Republic of Congo ended Cameroon’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, after beating them 1-0 on Thursday in the semi-finals of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The match was held at the “Al-Barid” Stadium in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, and was characterized by strength and excitement, during which the Congolese team was able to snatch the match’s fatal goal in the first minute of stoppage time through Chancel Mbemba.

The “Lions” team is the most African team to qualify for the World Cup with 8 participations, and was most prominent in the 1990 World Cup when Roger Milla and his teammates reached the quarter-finals and were knocked out by England, while their last appearance was in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

With this victory, the “Cheetahs” team set a date in the final match of the African playoff next Sunday, with Nigeria, which had previously defeated Gabon 4-1 in a match that extended into two extra periods.

Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium will host the match, noting that Morocco will host the play-off matches, and the winner of the final match will join the global play-off, which will be held next March in Mexico.
